February Service Project Bring to Pack Meeting

Posted on Feb 23 2020 - 12:16pm
We will also be collecting donations for our May community service project at the advancement ceremonies.  This month we will be making a donation of birthday bags to our local food pantry.  This project came to us as we thought about families in our community who may have fallen on hard times this year and who are not able to financially provide a birthday celebration for their child.  Our "Birthday Bag" will allow these families to celebrate their child's birthday with ease! In each Birthday bag are the following items: cake mix, aluminium cake tin, frosting, birthday candles, Happy Birthday sign, 1 package of balloons, 1 package of streamers, birthday plates and birthday napkins.   All of these items were picked up at the dollar store!  In order to make as many bags as possible, and to really make this project successful, we would greatly appreciate your contributions.  If your family would like to participate in this project, we have separated out the contributions per den.  Please see the list below to determine what contributions your scout can make to the project.

It is time to start planning for Summer Cub Scout Adventure Camp (CSAC) especially if you earned this as a reward for your popcorn sales.

CSAC is what most people think about as the traditional summer scout camp experience.  Cub Scout Adventure Camp is at Camp Cutler in Naples NY.  Cub Scouts and parents live in one of five themed villages for three days and two nights. While there they participate in camp-wide activities such as boating and fishing, swimming, nature, archery, and shooting sports as well as themed village programs.   This camp is put on my the Seneca Waterways Council in which Pack 225 is a member of.  Additional program details can be found on the registration page link, however please review this e-mail in full as well as the attached document prior to registering you and your scout(s).

Become a Hydrant Hero

Posted on Jan 20 2020 - 11:01am

Challenge to Pack 225 scouts.

As we (finally) start to enter the winter season, there is a lot on everyone's mind.  But one of the most overlooked is something that helps us all in our time of need: Fire Hydrants.
This winter season, we are reminding scouts to be helpful to all of their neighbors and make sure that hydrants near your home are free and clear of snow and ice.
A few tips:
  • Clearing a path from the hydrant to the street
  • Clearing a three foot perimeter around the hydrant
  • Remove ice and snow on the hydrant
We'd like to keep track the Pack's progress here!  This way, we can map it out later this winter and see which Den has done the most for our community!
I know that we don't have much snow now, but we all know it's right around the corner!

Reminder - Build your Recycling Rain Gutter Regatta Boat for Tuesday!

The feature event of our January pack meeting on Tuesday Jan 21st will be BOAT RACING!  Please bring a small dishtowel as the boats will be wet when removed from the track.

Pack 225 will hold our fourth Recycled Raingutter Regatta.  Each Scout will need to make their own boat out of recyclable materials or things we would normally throw away.  Scouts will race with other scouts from their same rank.  There will also be a Pack champion determined by a run off of the selected winners of each den.

Boat size: No longer than 8" or shorter than 6". The boat body cannot be wider than 3-1/2" and rudders longer than 3/4" may get stuck on bottom.  See the attached guidelines for all of the details.

Remember, This is not the Pinewood Derby.  Measurements that are “close enough” are fine.  Just “Do Your Best!”  The most important values in the Raingutter Regatta competition are parent/son participation, good sportsmanship, and learning how to follow rules.

Use your best boat building trash!  ...and make sure it is clean  :)
